Picture
Seeds of Hope is a ministry serving teenage street children in Kenya.  Our mission is to build and support the development of a self-sustaining residential vocational school which will provide occupational skills training allowing these young adults to become employed, contributing members of their community.

Lift our men up in prayer as they harvest the fields and build their workshop.

WHAT ARE WE DOING NEXT?

It has been a long time coming, but the workshop is now just about complete.  You can read more about this on the Updates and Events page.  So, its time to start looking forward to the next stage of development at the center.  For the last three years, the students have been operating and living with temporary living and kitchen conditions.  We can now set our sites on bringing these facilities up to date, to provide them the proper facilities for living, eating and gathering.

Now that the workshop is under control, the men will turn their focus back to training for welding exams and management of the crops through the rainy season.  In the meantime, our short-term plans include installing a drip irrigation system to allow the crops to no longer be dependent on the rain cycles, and a self-dispensing water system allowing them to sell water to other members of the community.  As those are being completed, we will begin efforts to raise the necessary funds to construct a permanent kitchen and dining area to accommodate 30+ people.  This will provide proper food storage and safe preparation as well as ample indoor space for dining and other activities.

The next phase of the center’s development will include the construction of permanent dormitory space and the provision of a home for the Managing Director and other mentors/trainers.

This is an exciting time for all of us at Seeds of Hope Vocational Centre.  Thank you all for your participation.

DAVID KARIUKI -Founder and Director of Operations

Picture
David Kariuki will be leading our life changing efforts on the ground in Kenya.
David has previously acted as the director of Tumaini Children’s Home. David
lived the experiences of these children as a youth, but has gone on to earn his
Masters in Counseling Psychology.

There are over 300,000 homeless street children in Kenya – mostly teens with
very little, if any, education, no homes, family, means of support, nor hope.
These kids have little hope to “catch up” in an academic environment as many
have not attended school and would be relegated to a grade level untenable
to the other students and faculty. So they get lost in the system, get into drugs
and crime, live on the streets, and die prematurely.
But we can do something about it – based upon the successful model
established by Charles Mully in Kenya nearly 30 years ago. The model is to
teach vocations, not elementary education, to this group of forgotten teens,
including farming, masonry, cabinetry, carpentry, sewing, welding, and
custodial. David grew up in this environment, survived and thrived and is now
heading our mission in Kenya. Come be a part of his story of redemption, hope and faith!
Seeds of Hope is dedicated to seeing his vision come to pass.
